Meet Bo, the new Obama puppy
The new First Dog has a name: Bo.
The photo you’re looking at is one of the first official photos of the new pup issued by the White House. Some details have already been leaked, including the fact he’s a Portuguese Water Dog, is six months old and was returned to the Texas kennel where he was purchased by his previous owner.
Sen. Ted Kennedy, who owns several PWDs, made the offer of the dog to the Obamas after he was returned.
The official announcement of Bo’s arrival is scheduled for Tuesday, but it’s not going to be a surprise to anyone. TMZ.com originally broke news of the dog on Friday.
Oh yes. Obama daughters Malia and Sasha have already met their new pet, and, according to the Washington Post, “Bo charmed the first family, a source who was there said. He sat when the girls sat, stood when the girls stood. He made no toileting errors and did not gnaw on the furniture. Bo has, after all, been receiving lessons in good behavior from the Kennedys’ dog trainers. These lessons have been taking place at a secret, undisclosed location outside Washington.”
According to reports, Malia and Sasha picked the new name. They have a cousin who owns a cat by the same name, and their their grandfather (First Lady Michelle's father) was nicknamed Diddley after the great blues guitarist Bo Diddley.

I THINK BO IS INCREDIBLY CUTE AND HE SEEMS TO BE SUCH A HAPPY BOY!!! WHAT A GREAT GIFT FOR MAILIA AND SASHA!!! BEING AN R.N. AND A DOG PERSON I CAN UNDERSTAND THE CONCERN ABOUT MAILIA'S ALLEGERICS...THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS MATTER AND THE OBAMBAS' REALLY RESEARCHED THEIR OPTIONS!!! A LOT OF PARENTS WOULD HAVE JUST SAID, "NO, YOU CANNOT HAVE A DOG...IT WILL MAKE YOU SICK!!!".
I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO UPDATES ON BO,,,WHAT A SWEETIE!!! I HAVE A GOLDEN RETERIEVER, BUT GOLDENS "ARE NOT" THE DOG FOR ANYONE WITH ALLERGIES!!!
I WISH "OUR" FIRST FAMILY MANY HAPPY HOURS WITH BO!!!

I think it is fine that Bo is a purebred dog. After all, he WAS returned to a shelter and I consider that to be a rescue. Since the Obama girls' allergies are a concern, I think this is a perfect solution. People who are complaining that our President didn't go directly to a shelter himself and pick out a dog for his girls are just looking for another reason to complain about him. He has more important things on his plate than worrying about what people think of him for having a purebred dog to ensure his children's health is not threatened! Some people just need to grow up!

So I guess this is the start of Puppy Gate. Or we can all just take our energy and volunteer or make a donations. That's what this story motivated me to do. The shelters are thankful for anything they get. I would love to see a national help a shelter day.

The pictures are really adorable. The girls picked a cute name that means something to the family. "Bo" is a "second-chance" dog, which is about as much as anyone could have asked (those hoping for a rescue), considering the allergy concerns.
I hope we can get more updates and photos on Bo's relationship with his new family. Thanks Obama-dog,com!

Obama could have used his Executive Power and issued an Executive Order to pardon one of the many "America" dogs that are in prisons (pounds). He should have done that and kept to his word about pardoning (adopting) a prison (pound) dog. When the matter came to a head, what did he do? He outsourced this dream dog job to a Portuguese dog. Millions of American dogs are unemployed in our country, of which Obama could have chosen. and he goes the foreign route. I though Obama was pro-America! Giving the job of White House dog to a foreign dog is a slap in the snout to every hard working American dog that is out of work! Good God Almighty. There are millions of American dogs who are out of work and would have loved to have this job. Any of those unemployed American dogs would have done a great job for Obama, his daughters, and the United States. However, I do have to wonder one more thing. Does the dog have all his required papers to be in the country? Since it is a Portuguese dog, are his papers ion order and has the Secret Service done the appropriate background checks on this animal? Has the dog’s papers been checked for proper documentation and his birth certificate verified for proper facts? Was a Birth Certificate made available for this dog or was it just a Certificate of Live Birth? Since this dog was a gift of a contributor of Obama’s, was it reported as a gift and since gifts given to Presidents are considered property of the United States, does that mean that WE, as citizens of the United States, now have a part ownership in the dog? Many questions are yet to be answered on this dog, no matter how cute he is.
